April 8th, Lowell and neighbor discussing... lumber, probably.
Then May 13, decking on the North side, more than halfway done! May 21, (Kristina's birthday) we have the south roof covered with solar board- decking with silver foil quilted onto the bottom side of OSB to reflect heat out of the attic.

Working on July 4th, we had a sand storm blow in.  It was hard to see with all the dust blowing into our eyes, and we didn't speak much or we'd get grit in our teeth.

July 8th, Joe was framing out the area for around the chimney.

July 28, with the summer flying by, we are finished with laying the tar paper (roofing felt) and lattice or lathe strips to support the metal sheets and to screw them onto.  This is Joe and the first metal sheet down!
The clerestory with the windows cut out, and the North side of roof nearly done!

More to come!!

March and April 2012

March 31, ceiling joists up, starting on roof rafters. Joe on the roof, and Lowell (Joe's Dad) pulling off the lumber.
Next day, April 1, moving right along. View is of South side from SW corner of property.

Such pretty blue sky contrasted against the orangy lumber.

Halfway done with the roof rafters, April 1st still.

North side of house from the NE corner of yard. Nearly done with rafterson April 7,  clerestory not there yet.

April 8, clerestory is manifesting before our very eyes! Joe is on the roof just at the edge of it.  The clerestory accomodates vaulted ceilings in the 3 "kid's rooms"in which North facing windows will go.

Looks done except for trimming the extra rafter length!

As Of February 14, 2012

Here I was standing on the Northeastern corner of the tire wall for the pic, dining room in foreground with its diagonal wall brace, then small powder room on right and kitchen beyond that...

The South wall, from the SE corner...We've had snow 4 or 5 times this winter... this picture I took day after Christmas - we had a White Christmas this year!  And so it goes without saying that the winter has been cold, and building slow, what with the cold & daylight ending early, but forward progress is progress! A couple of days we even put an old wheelbarrow in the kitchen and lit a fire in it for warmth so we could keep working.  Good way to use up the buckets full of inches-long scraps.

The 1st picture of the 1st 2 ceiling joists!

An hour later...more ceilings!

The bathrooms are ceilinged now... ( is ceilinged a word?)

And the hallway to the bedrooms too!  This coming weekend we will put up the "LVL" beam for the "Big Room" and perhaps work on the "pony wall" that is needed to accomodate the vaulted ceilings in the bedrooms.  This little vault will allow for some high north-facing windows to let daylight in, but not direct sunlight to help keep the rooms day-bright but not sun-heated in the summer.
